Explosion Kills 2, Injures 15 in China's SW Yunnan Province

At least two people were killed and 15 others injured in an explosion at a commercial district in China's southwestern Yunnan province on Sunday afternoon, local authorities said.

The accident reportedly took place around 6:00 p.m. in Yuanyang County. It caused damage to several shops and residential buildings nearby, Times of India reported citing state-backed Xinhua News agency.

All victims have reportedly been sent to the hospital.

Meanwhile, although an investigation is still underway, local authorities have ruled out the possibility of a terrorist attack.

In a related news, at least seven people were also killed and two injured in a gas explosion inside a coal mine in southwestern China last Friday.

The rescue team at the Rongsheng mine in Guizhou province successfully saved 11 people, including the two injured individuals, according to Fox News. Local authorities reportedly refused to announce the cause of explosion.

Another explosion also took place in China's Nanjing city after an equipment at an oil refinery caught fire and blew up on Oct. 9. The accident took place at the Jinlingshihua Nanjing Refinery at around 1:50 p.m., according to Straits Times citing state-backed Xinhua News agency.

Firefighters managed to put out the fire, and no casualties were reported. Furthermore, the blaze had been controlled, and there was not currently a secondary environmental or security risk.

A high-rise residential building in Harbin, capital of China's Heilongjiang Province also suffered from a gas leak explosion. The accident killed some three people and injured another three, Global Times reported citing local sources.

The explosion occurred on the 14th floor of a high-rise building on Oct. 4 at around 4:57 a.m. Windows of the affected floor were blown out, while its neighboring floors (13th and 15th floors) were severely damaged. Affected residents were promptly relocated.
