Turkey’s Erdogan Says U.S. Airdrops In Kobani A Big Mistake

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the United States' decision to send medical supplies and weapons to Kurdish fighters in the besieged Syrian town of Kobani was wrong, citing Wednesday that Islamic State (ISIS) militants seized some ammunition.
During his visit in Latvia, Erdogan said in a news briefing that ISIS seized some of the supplies the U.S. Air Force dropped on Monday.

Erdogan was referring to an online video showing ISIS militants with one of the packages prepared by the Kurdish fighters in Iraq.
Pentagon confirmed Wednesday that one of the 29 packages fell into the arms of the jihadists who have been shelling the town of Kobani over the past month. Officials said that while one other package was destroyed before the militants reached it, the majority of the aid has reached Kurdish fighters.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the UK-based watchdog that has been monitoring the developments in the region, confirmed that jihadists picked up at least one of the airdropped supplies.
However, Erdogan indicated that he was equally concerned that Kurdish fighters, who are listed as terrorists by the government in Ankara and its NATO allies, have been armed with fresh supplies of hand grenades, bombs, weapons and medical aid.
His insistence that supporting the embattled Kurdish fighters in Kobani amounted to supporting the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party has put Turkey at odds with its Western allies.
U.S. announced its airdrop mission a day after the publication of Erdogan's remarks opposing arms transfer to the Kurdish militiamen.
Kobani, a Syrian town bordering Turkey, is the latest focus of the Islamic State's lethal advance in the region.
ISIS has laid siege of the town for the fourth week running in a bid to consolidate its forces in Iraq and Syria. According to reports, the isolated pocket of resisting forces in Kobani is the only thing standing in the way of ISIS linking the territories it has so far captured.
