The promotional video shows people moving their heads from side-to-side and exclaiming in amazement about something that's out of sight of the camera.

It's a pretty intriguing video for Amazon's 3D smartphone that is expected to see the light of day at a special event on June 18. But if the 3D phone does have the "Wow!" factor shown in the video, and in leaked specs, the smartphone as we know it could be in for a really big overhaul.

The buzz about the 3D phone has been going on for well over a year. But tech weblog BGR last month published leaked images of the handset's design. BGR also came out with specs of Amazon's 3D phone.

BGR said the 3D phone will have a 4.7 inch, 720p display; will almost certainly run a forked version of Android; have a Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor and at least 2 GB of RAM.

But it's the 3D display that has everyone waiting with bated breath. Based on the non-stop head movements in the video, the phone seems to have a UI that's very responsive to movements. The phone uses multiple cameras to track a user's face so that it can adjust the display as a user is glancing around the screen.

Some sources said the phone will have a total of six cameras. Four of these will facilitate the device's 3D effects that won't rely on any Google Glass-type devices.

The phone's software will also respond to an innovative gesture control that will allow a user to tilt the phone in any direction to the point where a user won't need to touch the phone at all for some tasks.

Some tech analysts believe an Amazon Prime membership will be required to get the most out of the 3D phone.

A smartphone will give Amazon a much wider range of hardware devices to strengthen its diversification into digital books, songs and movies.
