Alleged cult leader Bai Xiujie and six others were publicly prosecuted on June 6 after being suspected of undermining law implementation through a cult organization in Guangzhou.
The Procuratorial Daily reported on Tuesday that the cult leader and his members were publicly prosecuted in Guangzhou by the Haizhu District Procuratorate. The procuratorate approved the arrest of the cult members from the Quannenshen or the “Church of Almighty God” in January.

The suspects were believed to be indoctrinating people into joining the cult, which has already formed bases in other parts of Guangzhou including Baiyun and Haizhu districts since March 2013.
China has already declared a ban on Qaunnenshen but Bai and his followers still hold meetings and give out reading materials and electronic documents about the cult. Authorities seized 106 documents, 75 books and 133,000 electronic files upon the arrest of Bai and his followers.
The apprehended members of the cult confessed that the primary distribution channel of Quannenshen was through MP4 files, computers and mobile phones.
Last month, a woman was beaten to death by six Quannenshen cult members in Zhaoyuan after she refused to join the group. Xinhua’s latest report said that the arrested members of the cult responsible in beating the woman to death showed no remorse for their violent act.
Quannenshen was first established in the 90s in Henan by Zhao Weishan, also known Xu Wenshan. The cult claimed that Jesus has been resurrected through Yang Xiangbin, the wife of the cult’s founder, who fled to the US in 2000.
Fourteen illegal cults have been listed in China, including the Church of Almighty God and Falun Gong. On June 5, nine key members of the Quannenshen were apprehended in Hunan.
The latest arrest made on members of the Church of Almighty God was in Henan where a total of five were apprehended. They were sentenced to 3 to 3 ½ years in prison. Four others were also apprehended in Liaoning and were sentenced 3 to 4 years.
