A recent report said that China is confident it could prevent the United States from intervening in case it decides to invade Taiwan.
On Tuesday, The Week, an online magazine, compared the war capabilities of China and the U.S. and said it would be a mistake for China to challenge the U.S.

The report said that China's persistence to challenge U.S. supremacy in terms of military prowess means it is disregarding the decisive power of America's nuclear-powered submarines.
China's economic influence and its ever-expanding military capabilities may pose a serious challenge to the U.S.
China believes it could prevail over any country in the region if American forces are not part of the military equation.
During the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission hearing, Lee Fuell, an expert from the U.S. Air Force's National Air and Space Intelligence Center, said PLA writings indicated that China can now withstand any U.S. involvement.
Fuell added that Beijing can attack Taiwan or any other country in the Asian region and prevent any intervention on the part of the U.S.
He said that China, should it pursue military action, could deploy jet fighters, ballistic missiles and aircraft carriers that could make the U.S. think twice before it gets involved.
Roger Cliff, a fellow at the Atlantic Council, said in the same hearing that the effects of Chinese military action directed against its neighbors could be world-changing.
"Backing away from our commitments to protect Taiwan, Japan, or the Philippines would be tantamount to ceding East Asia to China's domination," Cliff said.
The report said that the notions of liberal economic world order and democracy may be in jeopardy should China persists on pursuing this military track.
Cliff added that the U.S. has a responsibility, both moral and material, to ensure the survival of the democratic order.
Recent news showed that China has been pressuring U.S. allies in Asia-Pacific over territorial boundaries in the South China Sea. Analysts believed that China's action towards its neighbors is a typical geopolitical strategy to put the U.S. in an uncomfortable diplomatic position.
At the same time, the less-powerful response of other Asian claimants, except for Vietnam, emboldens China further to continue with its military activities in the region's waters.
According to experts, pursuing this strategic track may trigger an intervention on the part of the Americans considering that the countries concerned are either former U.S. colonies or American allies such as the Philippines, Taiwan and Japan.
However, the report stressed that if there are any shortcomings on China's part, that is it has overlooked the U.S.' naval capabilities.
It's nuclear-powered submarines, which military experts refer to as the 'Silent Service' are stealthily journeying the world. They carry weapons that could destroy an entire fleet with just one missile.
The report also added that these submarines serve as the unsung defenders of the current world order that holds the line against China for the next 20 years.
