China 'Creative' Copycat Technology: Manually Upgrade iPhone Storage from 16GB to 128GB
Staff Reporter | | Nov 03, 2015 01:38 PM EST |
Mainland mobile stores claim that they can manually upgrade an iPhone's storage from 16GB to 128 GB within one hour, according to Hong Kong press. The total cost of upgrading to 128G is 580 yuan (90 dollar). Apple has not released any response about this development.
The whole upgrading process is not complicated. The mobile store technician first cracks open the phone and takes out the circuit board. The materials stored in the current memory chip is moved to a 128GB one using a hard drive serial number reader. The technician subsequently heats the board, takes out the old memory chip, and replaces it with a new one. Updating it on computer is the last step.

Mainland mobile stores claim that there are no negative effect of this upgrading process. Serial number, type number, phone color, Wi-Fi address, and Bluetooth address can reportedly all be copied to the new memory chip through a hard drive serial number reader.
This iPhone storage memory upgrade has captured Internet users' attention and even sparked controversial discussion on Chinese social media sites. Some Weibo users feel skeptical about the process, while many of them argue that this is a crystallization of the wisdom of Chinese people.
