Reports indicate that tech giant Apple has opened a new production laboratory in the northern region of Taiwan. The secret lab is rumored to house the engineers who will develop new LCD and OLED screen technologies that will be integrated by Apple devices.
The report was first published by Bloomberg and it was quickly picked up by several tech blogging sites. The news has spurred speculations all over the tech community about Apple's newest projects.

The facility was previously used by another tech company, Qualcomm. Apple allegedly employed local engineers from Qualcomm and display manufacturer AU Optronics.
Apple's newest secret lab is located in the Longtan district of Taiyuan City, Taiwan. Aside from being the home of Apple's newest secret lab, the district is home to the headquarters of the Republic of China Army. The new Apple Lab in Longtan is also just an hour-drive away from Foxconn, the company responsible for assembling the iPhone and other Apple devices.
Reports indicate that the building houses at least 50 engineers. The main task of these engineers is to develop and design more advanced screen technologies for Apple.
Apple is yet to release a statement regarding the operation details of its secret lab. However, rumors claim that the main push is to develop a display technology that relies on organic light-emitting diodes. If these rumors are true, the new display technology might find its way into iPhone devices by the start of 2018.
Despite advances in display technologies, iPhone devices, including the recently released iPhone 6S, uses the older LED technology. The only Apple device that sports the newer OLED display technology is the Apple Watch.
Building management records acquired by Bloomberg reveal that Apple moved into the new facility in April. Six months after the transfer, Apple Taiwan moved its headquarters into the new building.
