There is no flash to Kahwi Leonard. But the San Antonio Spurs forward is quietly knocking on the doors of NBA Superstardom.
Despite playing excellent basketball both in offense and in defense, Leonard's public recognition remains out of line with his real ability.
When the Spurs first considered bringing in Leonard, the objective was simply to add a bigger perimeter player. Now in his fifth season with the ballclub, Kahwi has silently turned into a MVP caliber player.

He has become an important and an instrumental player for the team, a very potent and reliable scorer offensively and an absolute monster in the defensive end. He has been playing consistently since the start of the season. He secured a five-year deal worth more than $94 million in July.
According to the leagues' official website, Leonard is averaging 21 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, registering 2.0 steals and a block per game. He is shooting 87.5% from the foul line and having a 50.9 field goal percentage (based from 2015-2016 Regular Season General Splits Traditional Stats).
Leonard is currently the league's leader in 3-point field goal percentage (.495), despite entering the season as a career .368 percent shooter from long range. His all-around game has him on a historic pace: No player has ever connected on better than 40 percent of his 3-pointers according to an article of ESPN.
He has won the 2013-2014 season Finals MVP when the Spurs beat the Miami Heat and spoiled the LeBron-led team's three-peat dream. The following year, he was the league's Most Defensive Player recipient.
Leonard is the 15th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft selected by the Indiana Pacers. He was then traded to San Antonio in exchange for George Hill on draft night.
Eyeing what should be his first All-Star appearance, the Spurs cager keeps his personal career goals simple:
"That I played the hardest that I could throughout my whole career, and to see that I have team accomplishments like championships," Leonard said. "That's all I need."
