British Prime Minister Theresa May said on Sunday that she would ask her security advisers to review the stalled Hinkley Point Nuclear Project, which is backed by Chinese and French investors. May postponed the $18 billion Hinkley Point project in June, a day before the official inauguration of the project.

"I will be doing exactly as you've said which is -- as you know, I'll be looking at all the evidence around this issue," May replied after being asked whether she would ask the National Security Council to look into security issues related to the Hinkley deal.

The British Prime Minister's remark came after she landed in China to attend the G20 Summit, where she would hold a one-to-one meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Before leaving for China, May said that she would look into the evidence and reach a conclusion on the Hinkley project, Reuters reported. May stated that she would make a final decision on the deal later this month.

May's sudden decision to postpone the Hinkley Project took Chinese and French investors by surprise. Close sources claim that May is apprehensive about Chinese investment in the British nuclear project.

Diplomatic ties between China and Britain nosedived following postponement of the project. China issued veiled a warning about the possible impact of the move. To placate China, May wrote a special letter to China's leadership earlier this month, expressing her sincere desire to improve Britain's economic and diplomatic relationship with Beijing.

The Hinkley Point Project was approved by May's predecessor David Cameron in a bid to attract foreign investment into the country. Cameron has criticized May's decision, claiming that hasty decision on the Hinkley Point Project may scare Chinese investors.
