Chinese smartphone maker Alcatel has officially unveiled its latest standalone virtual reality headset - the Vision VR. Unlike others, this virtual reality device does not need a computer or phone to function.

The Alcatel Vision VR is a standalone headset capable of projecting virtual reality images with the absence of other secondary input devices. Through this VR device, users can move freely without worrying about wires getting in their way.

To achieve this, Alcatel put a smartphone on the headset itself called the Vision. The Alcatel Vision VR features two 3.8-inch AMOLED screens. Both screens on the VR headset support a 1,080 x 1,020-pixel resolution display. The device is powered by an octa-core processor, paired with a massive 3GB of RAM onboard.

The Alcatel Vision comes with a built-in 32GB internal memory storage. The device runs on the latest Android Marshmallow operating system inside the headset, along with Alcatel's customized user interface intended for VR viewing. The headset is fueled by 3,000mAh capacity battery hidden inside the device. Other features the headset offers include LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, accelerometer, proximity sensor, and gyroscope.

The price and exact date of availability of the standalone Alcatel Vision VR headset has not been finalized yet, but it is expected that the device would cost between $500 (approximately 3338.93 Yuan) and $600 (around 4006.71 Yuan). According to Mashable, the headset would start being shipped in China in the last quarter of 2016 and should become available in the United States from the first quarter of next year.
