China held off the highly-rated Iran team in a 0-0 draw at the Shenyang Olympic Stadium. The Dragons now sit in the fourth spot in their group after two matches played.
Iran's national team head coach Carlos Queiroz expressed disappointment after his team failed to capture their second victory in the Asian qualifier.
"At the beginning we had hoped to take the lead with very aggressive attacking. However, we encountered China's strong counter-attack. It was a very intensive game, highly competitive," Queiroz said. "I'm a bit disappointed about the result because we had expected to win. We were on top in terms of possession and opportunities and I thought we could do enough to take all three points within the 90 minutes."
The Iranians entered the game after an impressive 2-0 triumph over Qatar in Tehran in their first match.
Elsewhere, the match between Syria and South Korea also went on to end with a 0-0 draw. The match was played in Malaysia due to security concerns in Syria.
Japan defeated Thailand in Bangkok with a 2-0 victory while the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia got the better of Iraq with a 2-1 win, according to Xinhua.
