Schalke and Bayern have had different starts to this season of the Bundesliga. While Schalke lost their first match by a lone goal to Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern began their title defense with a solid 6 - 0 win over Werder Bremen.
Schalke would be looking to hand Bayern's new manager Carlo Ancelotti his first Bundesliga defeat since he took over from Pep Guardiola.
Ancelotti, on the hand, would undoubtedly be looking to grab the three points and further his team's 100 percent league record following the international break. Ancelotti will be able to count on players like Thomas Miller, Robert Lewandowski, Mats Hummels, Joshua Kimmich, and Manuel Neuer.
Bayern has been experiencing injury problems with Arjen Robben, Kingsley Coman, and Jerome Boateng being sidelined. However, the club's website revealed that all three players are making progress and have started light training with the ball.
Despite Bayern's injury list, Ancelotti has been looking to boost his team by bringing in reinforcement from the B team.
Ancelotti recently selected 18-year-old Felix Gotze, Mario Götze's younger brother, to join Bayern's Champions League team for this season.
Although the promotion surprised many, Felix was part of eight players Ancelotti promoted from Bayern's B team. Felix, who is considered as one of Germany's most promising central defenders, signed for Bayern at 16 from Dortmund.
Felix will wear the 20 shirt. He may be allowed to play during Bayern's upcoming Champion's League group games. Bayern has been drawn in a group with Atletico Madrid, FC Rostov, and PSV Eindhoven.
Ancelotti, who has coached several big European teams like Ac Milan and Real Madrid, said Bayern' s structure and unity has impressed him since his took over the club.
Ancelotti said the atmosphere in Bayern felt more like a family, and the club's officials are not pressurizing him into winning every competition his team features in.
"I haven't been challenged to win everything," Ancelotti told Die Welt. "I have to ensure that we are competitive and remain so, and that we're amongst the top clubs in Europe."
Ancelotti's move to Bayern is interesting since, in 2014, he led Read Madrid to defeat Guardiola's Bayern team with by a 5-0 aggregate to reach the Champions League final.
When asked if any of his Bayern players have asked him about the defeat, Ancelotti said "No, they haven't asked about it. This probably means that they are all trying to forget about it."
