Many homeless people in Honolulu are unhappy after a recent proposal to ban individuals from sitting or lying down on sidewalks within the renowned surfing and tourist Mecca was presented on Wednesday.
Reportedly, the Honolulu-Waikiki sit-lie ban was set in place following pressure from the local tourism industry. The ban is aiming to prevent homeless individuals from occupying the sidewalks and streets.

The plans to eradicate the homeless has stemmed from multiple ongoing complaints made by locals, business owners, and tourists.
"People were lying down near the entrance to Macy's, with trash and human excrement on covering the nearby sidewalks", said a local business owner. He further added that it is difficult for tourists to have to constantly explain "the homeless' situation to their children."
Some are saying that these conditions are far from what tourists envision when saving and spending substantial amounts of money on their vacations.
Tourism industry officials also pressed strongly for the ban on sitting and lying down in or around popular tourist destinations in hopes of providing tourist friendly areas in Honolulu.
Late Wednesday, the city council approved several parameters aimed towards relocating homeless people out of certain tourist hotspots. According to sources, this includes setting measures to prevent sitting and lying down on sidewalks or street-sides in the Waikiki area.
According to reports, in an effort to keep the homeless out of areas heavily populated by tourists, Honolulu city officials are making plans and arrangements to move the individuals to a containment camp located in a remote industrial section of the Sand Island.
The bill for the encampment plan is currently awaiting Mayor Kirk Caldwell's approval.
The lease, among other stipulations regarding the detainment camp, will be discussed in a state board meeting on Friday morning.
