Chinese shooter Yang Chao paid tribute to the National Paralympic Committee of China after winning the top honor in the men's 10m air pistol SH1 at the Rio Paralympic Games on Friday.

According to Xinhua, Yang led the final round from beginning to the end. He finished the contest with 198.2 points to prevail against rival Lee Ju Hee of South Korea by just 2.6 points. Uzbekistan's Server Ibragimov took the bronze medal with 172.1 points.

"This is my first Paralympic Games and my first medal," Yang said. "I'm very excited, and I put a lot of effort into this. My family and the Paralympic Association put in so much to me, so it is nice to reward them too."

The 37-year-old resident of Changde opened up a 2.5-point lead following two rounds and flaunted steadiness over pressure to stave off the South Korean's challenge in the final rounds.

"There's no strategy, I just did daily training very well and it's just basic skill coming through," Yang said, attributing his coolness to a combination of training and natural talent.

Yang's glorious win was the second shooting gold medal at the Rio Paralympics for China following Dong Chao's triumph in the men's 10m air rifle standing SH1 event on Thursday.

Also on Friday, Song Maodang broke the world record to win the gold medal in the men's 100m butterfly S8. The 23-year-old Chinese swimmer touched the wall in 59.19 seconds to beat the previous record of 1:00.45 set by Peter Leek of Australia in 2010, according to Gulf News.

His compatriot Xu Haijiao took the silver medal in one minute 0.08 seconds with fellow Chinese swimmer Yang Guanglong claiming the bronze in 1:01.18.

China is leading the medal table at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games with a total of 49 medals including 20 gold, 17 silver, and 12 bronze medals.
