With only five games left in the Southern China Tigers' season, the team is now on the verge of winning their six consecutive China top flight title and their second straight one under World Cup-winning head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.
Guangzhou Evergrande winger Zheng Long led the hosts in scoring with a brace while Brazilian midfielder Ricardo Goulart had a goal and three assists under his name.
Goulart opened the floodgates with an individual goal right at the sixth minute before fellow midfielder and countryman Paulinho doubled the lead five minutes later off an assist from another Brazilian, Alan Carvalho, via Soccerway.
Liaoning was then able to cut the lead down to 1-2 at the 24th with a successful penalty kick from Congolese defender Assani Lukimya after Guangzhou defender Li Xuepeng fouled Whowin midfielder Wang Liang inside the penalty box.
After a 2-1 count at the break, the Tigers' continued their onslaught in the second half as Zheng netted his first goal of the match at the 57th, with the pass coming from team captain Zheng Zhi this time around. Then it was Alan's turn to score at the 63rd from Goulart's first assist, giving them a huge 4-1 cushion.
Australian winger Dario Vidosic made it a 4-2 affair with a free kick at the 65th, but Goulart pulled off two more assists to seal the win for the hosts. The first one found Zheng in injury time for his second goal of the game before the other assist reached substitute striker Jackson Martinez one minute later.
