Recently, a painting exhibition of Chinese outstanding painter Huang Yongyu is on show at the National Museum of China. In typical Huang Yongyu's low profile style, there should be no ribbon cutting ceremony, no lectures, no cocktail parties or no seminars for his painting exhibition. Yesterday, the 90-year-old painter appeared in person and shared his insight on life with the journalists. In the interview, the most frequent two words mentioned by Huang Yongyu are "fun" and "happy". "I paint for fun. There don't exist many so-called meanings in my paintings." Huang Yongyu said.

The painting exhibition consists of five parts: the first part contains paintings from 1948 to 2004, which shows the odyssey of Huang's paintings since the foundation of the People's Republic of China, among which, the engraving "Ashima" and the traditional Chinese painting "Shangui" are his representative works.

The second and third parts contain Huang's traditional Chinese paintings from 2004 to 2013, which presents the artist's multiplex style of painting after 80 years old. Many famous huge painting works were born during this period. A line drawing of lotus flowers on show is created just a month ago. When being asked which painting is his representative work, Huang Yongyu smiled: "I paint every day. I even can't remember all of my works. Sometimes, until I visit my painting exhibitions, I remember: 'oh, that's what I have painted before!'" When talking about lotus flowers, one of his favorite themes, Huang Yongyu said: "You guys always thought there must be an abstruse point in my painting. In fact, I love painting lotus flowers just because I am familiar with them." Master Huang was born in southern China, where lotus is a very common plant. That's why he can create lots of vivid lotus flowers all at his fingertips.

The forth part of the painting exhibition is his other works from 2004 to 2013, including canvases, calligraphy, sculptures, and designs, glass arts. "I'm less educated in the childhood, so my painting skill comes from practice. This may be my shortcoming, but it's also my personal style." Huang Yongyu said. The fifth part shows his fresco of "Great Unity of the Chines People of All Nationalities" in 1959.
