Liaoning Whowin had dropped to the 12th spot of the 16-team Chinese first division table as they had been winless in five of their last six matches. The team had been struggling in form and has only seen victory once since August, which was a 2-0 victory over Hangzhou Greentown.

Head coach Ma Lin's side was crushed by defending champions and league leaders Guangzhou Evergrande, 2-6, during their match last Sunday at the Tianhe Stadium, as per Xinhuanet.

Congolese defender Assani Lukimya and Australian winger Dario Vidosic scored a goal each for the visitors at the 24th and 65th minutes, but they were not able to stop the Southern China Tigers from unleashing six goals throughout the contest.
