Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia remains the top men's singles badminton player in the world and Chen Long of China is not so far behind keeping his post as the sport's second-best in the latest list of the BWF's world rankings.

Lee, who claimed his third straight silver medal in an Olympic event in the last Rio Games after losing to the Chinese Olympian in the finals, kept his spot as the world's No. 1 male shuttler edging out the reigning 2016 Summer Olympic Games gold medalist Chen Long.

The Malaysian badminton superstar has already garnered a total of 91,773 ranking points, more than enough to beat Chen's 86,984 total ranking points.

Lee has a margin of 4,789 points only but it can still go up since he is already competing in the ongoing Yonex Open Japan Super Series, while Chen iss still on an Olympic break along with two-time Olympic champion and five-time World Championship winner Lin Dan.

Lin, the 33-year-old Kuala Lumpur-based blue-chip player, currently enters the tournament's championship round and is set to play against Denmark's Jan O Jorgensen, according to BadmintonPlanet.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian initially held the topmost rank in June 2006, but eventually lost it. However, Lee reclaimed the position of world's No. 1 last July after a spectacular comeback run following his eight-month doping ban.

In the meantime, Carolina Marin of Spain remains as the world's No. 1 in the women's singles category.  The Rio Game gold medalist has gained a total of 83,680 ranking points.
