Tennis News: Roberta Vinci of Italy Advances to the Second Round of the 2016 Wuhan Open in China

(Photo : Getty Images) Roberta Vinci has advanced to the next stage of the 2016 Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open.
WTA's current world No. 15 Roberta Vinci of Italy advanced past the opening round of the ongoing 2016 Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open on Sunday after defeating Monica Puig of Puerto Rico.
According to The Strait Times, the 33-year-old Italian tennis ace scored two straight sets 6-3, 6-3 victory over the 22-year-old Puig to successfully advance to the second round of the tennis tournament. Vinci took just an hour and 20 minutes to claim victory over the Puerto Rican tennis player.

The meeting was the first official matchup between the two professional players with Vinci getting the early advantage over Puig.
With the victory, Vinci will be playing Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan in the second round of the tennis competition. The Kazakhstani tennis ace defeated Zheng Saisai of China in two easy sets 6-0, 6-3.
In the other matches of the opening round, Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia also advanced to the second round of the tourney after her Swiss opponent Belinda Bencic was forced to retire from the match with a lower-back injury. The Russian was in the front seat enjoying a 6-3, 3-4 lead when Bencic decided to withdraw, according to SportingLife.
American Louisa Chirico also enjoyed a similar luck when Timea Bacsinszky pulled out of the match after the Swiss tennis ace became ill. Chirico will be facing the winner of the game between Daria Sergeyevna Kasatkina of Russia and Julia Goerges of Germany
Meanwhile, Yanina Wickmayer (Belgium), Laura Siegemund (Germany), and Irina-Camelia Begu (Romania) also won their respective first-round matches.
