Lane was apprehended early Friday, based on the statement of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Lima police. "We got him [Lane]. On Thursday night, Lane and two other inmates were reported to have escaped from Allen Correctional Facility in Lima, Ohio. However, one of Lane's companions was immediately captured by the police. The 19-year-old, as well as the other inmate, 45-year-old Clifford Opperud, were then the subjects of an aggressive manhunt conducted by Allen County Sheriff's Office, Lima Police, and Ohio State Highway Patrol.

News of the escape of the inmates at 7:40 on Thursday immediately alerted the Ohio public safety and correction officials to commence an "extensive search". According to authorities, all agencies have mobilized their tactical teams for the immediate recapture of the inmates. The officials involved in the determined search for the escapees utilized infrared detection equipment and a helicopter.

"All available troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol have been joined by Allen County Sheriff's deputies and local area law enforcement in establishing a perimeter and searching the area," stated Ohio Department of Public Safety Director John Born.

Despite Lane's capture, however, authorities are still firm on their warnings to citizens against picking up hitchhikers and opening their homes to strangers as Opperud remains to be at large.

Last year, Lane was convicted for the murder of three students in February 2012 from Chardon High School. When asked for his motive behind the shooting, the then 18-year-old Lane stated that he had no explanation as to why he did it. During his sentencing, Lane wore a T-shirt that had the word "KILLER" plastered across it.
