LeEco to Open 1K Retail Stores in India by December 2017

LeEco plans to open 1,000 retail stores in India by December 2017 with the goal of expanding its reach and developing a strong brand recall.

With the creation of physical stores for its products, the Chinese start-up firm is expecting to earn 50 percent revenue from India, according to Livemint. In April, LeEco has filed an application with the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to open single brand retail stores and expected to open up 500 stores in the first six months of 2017. These physical stores are combination of company owned stores and franchise outlets.

“This is in line with our aim to be among top three brands in the country by 2018,” said Atul Jain, chief operating officer, smart electronics business, at LeEco India.

It has already teamed up with numerous distributors across organized and unorganized channels in the country. They are now available in 3,000 outlets in various cities such as Bengaluru, Delhi-National Capital Region, Varanasi, Meerut, Pune, Mumbai and Chennai. Another 65 cities will be added, as well as almost 8,000 outlets, by November and December.

LeEco’s products were launched exclusively on Flipkart and they will be available on other e-commerce marketplaces like Snapdeal and Amazon India. In addition, the Chinese tech firm provides an offline presence in China as well.

The ‘Netflix of China’ will spend almost $10 million for three months for marketing purposes, which will start this October. Morever, the company is planning to begin exporting products to Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Russia by the second half of 2017.

For the month of August, the company has already sold more than 70,000 phones and 2,000 television sets. Recently, LeEco unveiled their new series of smart televisions in the Indian market and despite the small market size for large (55-inch plus) 4K resolution televisions were big hit, Daily Pioneer reported.
