Chinese Outbound Tourists to Hit 600M in 5 Years: Report

More than 600 million Chinese tourists are expected to travel abroad over the next five years, according to a report by the China National Tourism Administration.

The CNTA report revealed that the number of outbound Chinese tourists have already reached more than 59 million in the first half of this year, thanks to the country's relaxed visa policies and increasing disposable incomes, China.org reported.

In 2015, China has the biggest number of outbound travelers in the world, with about 120 million Chinese travelers heading overseas, up from 109 million in 2014. CNTA also reported a 19.5 percent year on year increase, that is, about 13 times bigger than that of in 2008.

Meanwhile, Chinese travelers have also logged over 2.2 billion domestic trips and the total revenue has reached 2.25 trillion yuan ($337.31 billion) in the first six months of the year, up by over 12 percent, CCTV News noted.

Reports reveal that Chinese travelers splurged as much as about $74 million per day on holidays in the United States, with their top three favorite go-to destinations include fashion retailers, hotels, and luxury stores.

The United States also saw an influx of Chinese tourists last year, with an 18 percent increase to 2.59 million compared with that of in 2014. In fact, China surpassed Brazil as the fifth biggest source of Chinese tourists heading to the United States.

Meanwhile, with the increasing number of tourists going overseas, China recently launched a program to promote their stories, an effort to improve the image of Chinese travelers, the Jakarta Post reported.

Three leading organizations including the China National Tourism Administration, travel agency Ctrip, and China's first national English newspaper China Daily launched the search for "Good Chinese Tourists" in Beijing on Tuesday.
