Viber 5.0 has a new video calling feature and is now available for Android and iOS devices.
After being acquired by Rakuten, a Japanese retail giant, the Viber app that has over 400 million users worldwide is getting a major overhaul in its call and text services.
Version 5.0, the Viber update, now allows users to make free video calls to their Viber contacts anywhere in the world.

The Viber 5.0 update works cross-platform because it also released new versions of its desktop application for Windows, Windows 8 and OS X.
Originally, the video call feature was limited to desktop application. But with Viber 5.0, mobile and desktop users can now transfer video calls on both platforms without dropping a call.
Viber CEO Talmon Marco, said they're "delighted to bring video calling to mobile."
"Users can now make video calls from their phone and desktops, they can always talk in the way that's most convenient for them, wherever they happen to be," Marco said.
In addition to Viber's new features, version 5.0 also includes QR code scanning for quick and easier contact management and a number of specific OS enhancements.
