Chinese tennis star Zhang Shuai advanced to the second round of the ongoing 2016 China Open at the Beijing Olympic Park on Sunday following her victory against her doubles partner Samantha Stosur of Australia.
Zhang got the better of the 2011 US Open winner in two straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in their opening round showdown. It was the second-straight win of the Chinese tennis ace this year over Stosur after ousting the 32-year-old Australian in their second round matchup at the US Open last month.

Zhang said during the post-match conference that she had utilized her full potential in the Sunday's match, but she also stated that Stosur, who is also her friend, has not been in good form recently.
"I feel very sad for her. She made a lot of mistakes," Zhang said. "If she plays well, I thought she could do a much better job."
Zhang will be facing \Alison Riske of the United States in the second round of the tournament on Tuesday. The 26-year-old American stunned the 15th-seeded player Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia with a victory in two-straight sets 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
"She's really a brave competitor, intelligent and diligent player," Zhang said referring to Riske. "I hope both of us could provide you a real quality performance."
The two professional players have already faced each other thrice, and Riske had the upper hand with her last two victories against Zhang four years ago. The American tennis ace defeated the 2016 Australian Open quarterfinalist in the year 2012 at the Aegon Classic Birmingham in Great Britain and the Open de Limoges in France, while Zhang won Riske in the 2011 Miami Open.
