In the past, insiders gave their take as to why Kim Kardashian and husband Kanye West decided to name their daughter "North".

One source said the reason that the couple decided to go with "North" was because they wanted an original and creative name for their baby.

"They didn't want their child to have a name everybody else already has; they wanted something creative and fun, and North it is!," the insider said.

Another source gave a more metaphorical reason for the name, saying that they believed their child was a star "and her name, North, points in that direction."

However, Kardashian recently decided to come clean as to why they decided on the name - and it was all because of a joke, Pharell Williams and Anna Wintour.

The 33-year old reality star explained in an interview with British GQ that she was having lunch with West and they were talking about rumors and jokes being made in the press that they were going to name their child "North". 

While they were having lunch, singer-songwriter Pharell Williams came to their table to say hi, saying "Oh my God, are you guys really going to call your daughter 'North'? That is the best name."

After Pharell left, "Anna Wintour came over and asked the same thing. She told us: 'North is a genius name.' Kanye and I looked at each other and just laughed. I guess at that point it sort of stuck," Kim narrated.

While the name started as a joke in the press, it clearly stuck.

But recent news of West being hospitalized in Melbourne before his concert certainly wasn't anything to laugh about.

The rapper-producer was said to have had an apparent seizure attack and was rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, doctors gave him the go-ahead to continue with his concert and he was discharged from the hospital after two hours.
