Chris Brown says he can certainly empathize with what NFL star Ray Rice is going through.

A video of Rice beating up his now-wife Janay Palmer-Rice surfaced online and he has consequently been suspended from the NFL for life.

Brown, who was given five years probation for attacking his former girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, told MTV News what he thinks the former Baltimore Ravens running back should do.

"To Ray, or anybody else-because I'm not better than the next man-I can just say I've been down that road," said Brown, 25. "I deal with situations and I've made my mistakes too, but it's all about how you push forward and how you control yourself," he added.

Brown said he has sought professional help for his anger and that it has been "great".

The singer said he goes to a therapist twice a week and that he has learned how to react to certain situations a lot better because of it. He said feelings and emotions shouldn't be bottled up because "It's not supposed to stay there, you're not supposed to keep it inside, because it''ll bottle up and you'll become a monster."

Aside from Brown, actress Robin Givens also spoke out on domestic violence and Rice's actions. Givens suffered violence in the hands of her former husband, boxing great Mike Tyson, and can relate to what Rice's wife is going through. Givens and Tyson were married from 1988 to 1989.

Givens called Rice's violence "a game-changer."

"This conversation has become a different conversation because of that video. However difficult it is for this poor woman, she will help myself and other women just to be believed that this is indeed possible, that this does happen to women," she said.

Givens once wrote a piece for TIME magazine about her ordeal with Tyson entitled "Why I Stayed".
