Alisan Porter, the adorable star of the early 90s flick "Curly Sue", revealed her struggle with the bottle. She also detailed her life, now seven years alcohol-free, as a mother and wife.

In a post for Lil' Mamas, the former child star wrote, "Hi, I'm Ali, and I'm an alcoholic. Yup, bet you didn't see that one coming. Or, because you know that I'm a former child star, you totally did. Anyway, it's the truth. I've been sober since October 28, 2007, and I haven't touched a drink or a drug since."

The 33-year old then goes on to write what she feels addiction is. She says that it isn't about alcohol or drugs, but rather it is about how you think other people see you, how you see yourself and how you feel about things in your life. She goes on to say that for her, it is about being powerless, about not knowing how to change the things in your life.

While living in New York, the former actress was suddenly hit by the realization that she had to go sober to save her own life. She then decided to go to rehab, after which, she attended meetings and working on rebuilding her life.

"It was crazy. I would wake up everyday happy, and not because I got something or had a hot dude in my bed. I was finding genuine happiness," she explained.

After cleaning her life of its clutter, Porter managed to create much-needed space for good things to come in. It was when she became sober that she got married, became a mother, acquired a new house, bought a car with her own money and, most importantly, got a life.

"I became a better friend, a better daughter, a better artist, better sister... I just got better. I grounded. But, you see, I also got responsibility," she wrote.
