The tournament's top seeded player Andy Murray of the Great Britain successfully earned his spot in the championship round of the 2016 China Open after easily beating David Ferrer of Spain in two straight sets 6-2, 6-3 triumph on Saturday in Beijing, China.
According to Xinhua, with the victory, the current world No. 2 has secured his maiden appearance in the final stage of the prestigious Beijing-based tennis tournament and his ninth of the season. It also marked the three-time grand slam winning British player's 14th win over Ferrer in their 20 official meetings.

"Yeah, I did well," Murray, who is yet to drop a set this week in the capital city of China, said after the semifinal match. "I was obviously 2-1 down with a break in the first set."
"I mean, played very well. Even the period in the second set where he came back a bit, when he broke me, there was a lot of long points," he continued. "Really good tennis I thought."
According to the Daily Mail, reaching the finals will provide the 29-year-old Murray the opportunity to garner more ranking points for his quest of ending the season with a strong finish and to declared the world's no. 1 in tennis.
He is currently 4,695 ranking points behind the Serbian Novak Djokovic, who has a total of 14,040 points, for the top spot.
In Sunday's finals, Murray will be facing Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, the 25-year-old Bugarian tennis ace who advances to the final round of the tournament after Canadian Milos Raonic was forced to retire from the game following his ankle injury.
Dimitriv sensationally scored a remarkable upset victory against the current world No. 4 Rafael Nadal in their quarterfinal showdown before easily entering the final stage of the competition.
Murray leads Dimitrov 7-3 in head-to-head meetings. This year, both players have won one match apiece against each other with Dimitrov winning in the Miami Open while Murray registering a victory in the recently-concluded US Open.
