China has lashed out at India for using the dispute over its attempt to get the United Nations to blacklist Pakistan-based terrorist Masood Azhar for "political gains."
In an indirect reference to India, China's deputy foreign affairs minister Li Baodong said that no country should pursue its political gains in the name of counter-terrorism.

"There should be no double standards on counter- terrorism. Nor should one pursue own political gains in the name of counter-terrorism," Li told reporters in Beijing on Monday.
Last week, China announced its decision to extend its technical hold and prevent the United Nations from banning Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar. That was the second time that Beijing had blocked India's bid to designate Azhar as a terrorist.
New Delhi, which accuses Jaish-e-Mohammed of being behind several terrorist attacks in India, reacted strongly to the UN's failure to designate Azhar as a terrorist saying. Indian authorities said that the committee had already pondered over the submission for the past six months, and it would get a further three months to ponder, but that would in no way change the extreme situation.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will soon visit India to attend the BRICS Summit. The summit of five-nation grouping (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) would be held in popular Indian tourist destination Goa from October 15 to 16. Xi is likely to hold a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the summit.
