Quickly following his indictment on suspicion of child endangerment for allegedly beating his son with a switch, Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson was booked and released on bond from a Houston-area jail on Saturday.
Word of the pending arrest surfaced Friday as events streamed fast related to allegations that Peterson beat his son using the piece of wood leaving marks on the 4-year-old child. While Peterson practiced with the team in preparation for a Sunday meeting with the New England Patriots, Montgomery County, Texas officials said a warrant had been issued for his arrest.

Vikings officials initially said Peterson would play, but later Friday declared him inactive for the Sunday game. On Saturday, Peterson surfaced in Conroe, Texas, and was booked into Montgomery County Jail. He was released a few hours later after posting $15,000 bond.
The NFL already has been the center of controversy relating to many instances of alleged domestic abuse and violent behavior by players. The recent case of Ray Rice called a great deal of national attention to the behavior of NFL players and seemingly light reaction by NFL leadership.
It wasn't known whether Peterson would remain in his suburban Houston home or return to Minneapolis. A man who said he was Chris Peterson, Adrian Peterson's uncle, told reporters at Peterson's Eden Prairie, Minnesota house the football player wasn't there.
Rusty Hardin, a prominent Houston attorney representing Peterson, said the star running back never hid his punishment of the child. Peterson had been similarly disciplined by his father when he misbehaved and didn't intend to harm the child, Hardin said.
The startling arrest of Peterson piled on bad news for the NFL already reeling from public outcry over initially light punishment meted out to Rice for hitting his soon-to-be wife and knocking her out in an Atlantic City, N.J. casino elevator.
