"The Chinese side firmly opposes the British government's issuance of the so-called Six Monthly Report on Hong Kong, which contains willful comments on Hong Kong affairs," ministry's spokesperson Geng Shuang said in his regular press briefing in Beijing. "We, by no means, accept the unwarranted accusations against China in some parts of the report."
Beijing has also called on the British government stop interfering in its internal affairs, saying that Hong Kong is China's special administrative region and its affairs fall within the country's domestic affairs.
"No country has the right to interfere. We require the British side to be discreet in word and deed and stop meddling in Hong Kong affairs," the spokesperson said.
Shuang further stated that China has successfully implemented the principle of "one country, two systems" and Hong Kong is being administered by its own people with a high degree of autonomy.
"The Chinese government is confident and determined in carrying forward one country, two systems," he said. "Hong Kong maintains its prosperity and stability, and Hong Kong people are fully entitled to rights and freedom under the law."
Britain's foreign secretary and fire brand conservative party leader Boris Johnson, in the six monthly report, questioned the integrity of Hong Kong's law enforcement. The report was recently tabled in British Parliament.
