Despite not disclosing the approximate sales figure, it has been claimed that this time the craze for Chinese products is on a downslide.

Indian leaders made extensive use of social media channels like Facebook and Twitter to run campaign against Chinese products. Their messages are underpinned with patriotic fervour, depicting China as "anti-India" and calling Indian buyers to cripple Chinese economy by boycotting their products.

Most sellers in New Delhi market have come forward in support of the boycott campaign, but they are unable to hide their disappointment over huge financial loss that this ongoing boycott campaign has brought up on them.

"People have invested a lot on these products," a shop-owner at Old Delhi's Lajpat Rai market said. "Before taking any decision, politicians should be aware of our plight. Any plan to stop Chinese goods in India is not feasible."

Several shop keepers also shared that the retail market has become very gloomy following the ban on Chinese goods, especially that it was done just ahead of the peak Diwali. Accordingly, the scenaio will further hamper their business.

Over the years, Chinese products, such fairy lights, decorative items and statues, have enjoyed near-monopoly among Indian buyers. Their sales have touched rooftop, particularly during the Diwali season, which is the most celebrated and popular festival in entire India.

Experts noted, however, that the campaign against Chinese products will lose momentum as soon as tension between India and China subsides. The creditability of their claim cannot be doubted, given that such campaigns in the past have not achieved much success.
