Recently, Sony has announced that the Xperia Ear is now available for pre-online through supported online retailers. Sony first revealed the Xperia Ear smart personal assistant at the Mobile World Congress back in February.

Xperia Ear is powered by Sony's Agent Technology platform. Although, many tech analysts believe Sony's platform is not yet as sophisticated as Apple's Siri or Google Assistant. However, they say the plaform is still developing.

Just like most smart digital assistants, Sony's Xperia Ear allows users to receive notification and read out messages, even those from the instant messaging apps, according to Slash Gear. The Xperia Ear allows users to respond to those messages. The device also informs user of their daily schedule, the weather, and latest news. Like most smart digital assistants, users can easily ask for help from Xperia Ear through voice communication.

What separates Xperia Ear from most smart digital assistant is its hardware. Unlike Siri and Google Assistant which are embedded into a smartphone, Xperia Ear is a mono earpiece which can be connected to a supported smartphone via Bluetooth. The earpiece can also double as a headphone.

While the Xperia Ear does look nice on paper, it carries quite a hefty price tag. The device costs $220 and it is currently available for pre-order on Sony's online marketplace. Sony would start shipping the Xperia Ear by mid-November.
