The Chinese tech giant said the new Kirin 960 chipset sports new generation Mali graphics processing unit, the fastest ARM CPU cores, and several new upgrades for the chipset's networking technology.

The new Kirin 960 chipset is equipped with four high-performance ARM Cortex A73 cores clocked at 2.4GHz, with four low-power Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz, according to Android Authority. The chipset was produced using the 16nm manufacturing process.

The product is said to be the first to sport the new Mali G71 MP8 GPU, the same GPU rumored to be inside Samsung Galaxy S8 that is due for release by next year.

During the presentation of the Kirin 960, Huawei pointed out that while the A10 Fusion chipset, which powers the new iPhone 7, outperforms the Kirin 960 in single-core performance test, the latter beats the A10 in terms of multi-core testing.

The Mali G71 MP8 GPU is also expected to outperform most of its rivals in terms of gaming performance. The GPU is expected to deliver up to 180 percent performance increase compared to the previous generation Mali T880 GPU.

Furthermore, the Huawei new hisilicon Kirin 960 chipset supports Cat 12 LTE download speed. The company claimed that the chipset's networking features support the widest range of radio frequencies ranging from 330MHz to 3.8GHz.
