Imran Khan reportedly told the envoy that Chinese investment held special importance in Pakistan's quest for economic prosperity, indicating that he equally considers the CPEC project important for the region's economic development.
Imran was also appreciative of the CPEC initiative, describing it as the 'game changer' and expressed good wishes for the successful completion of the ambitious project.
Sources added that the PTI Chief gave complete details to his Chinese counterpart about the on-going corruption movement and its planned lockdown of Islamabad City on Nov. 2. The Chinese ambassador was assured, though, that the lockdown of the capital city next month will not derail the Nawaz Sharif government.
It was further explained that the sealing of the capital city was only meant to force the government to immediately launch investigation into the Panama Papers leaks, the PTI chair reportedly told the Chinese ambassador.
Imran Khan's meeting with the Chinese ambassador came amid frequent allegations by Nawaz Sharif's ministers that PTI's accountability movement is leading to delay in the CPEC project. Reports had also surfaced in Pakistani media that the PTI leader had some serious reservation over the CPEC project.
Experts believe that the recent meeting was important for calming China's nerves over progress and timely completion of the multi-billion dollar project. China has invested more than $40 billion in the ambitious project that has attracted fair share of controversies over the years.
