UCLA Bruins Beat the Texas Longhorns Off Coin-toss Mistake

A rare mistake by the Texas Longhorns during the coin toss allowed for their opponents, the UCLA Brewers, to start both halfs with the ball.
UCLA had won the coin toss. They decided to defer their choice to the second half. This then gave Texas the decision to receive the opening kickoff or go on defense. Naturally, a team would choose to receive the ball and go on the defensive.

Texas had other ideas.
In a surprising move by one of Texas' team captains, they chose to kick the ball. This meant that for the first and second half, UCLA would start with the ball, a decision that left Texas Coach Charlie Strong not too pleased.
Early on in the first quarter, UCLA lost their starting quarterback, Brett Hundley, to a left elbow injury. He was replaced by Jerry Neuheisel.
The first quarter saw only three points on the board going to UCLA via a field goal.
The second quarter showed the strength of the Texans, starting with a field goal as well, and scoring another touchdown. By the end of the first half, they lead the game, 10-7.
UCLA started strong with their first touchdown when Neuheisel found Nate Iese in the end zone to equalize the game.
In the fourth, both teams were neck and neck and were striving for the win.
On a fourth down with one yard to go, UCLA linebacker Myles Jury pounded his way to earn the much needed yard. This lead to another field goal, bringing UCLA's lead up, 13-10.
The Texans were able to come together as a team and score another touchdown late in the fourth. However, they were not able to stop the Bruins with another pass to Jordan Payton.
UCLA won 20-17.
