Argentina eliminated the World League champions USA, while Iran advanced to the final six at the Men's Volleyball World Championship in Poland on Sunday.

Argentina may not have made it to the next round but they ended the tournament with a high note as they defeated fourth seeds USA and have eliminated the Americans from entering the final six in a thrilling five-set match 19-25, 28-26, 25-20, 23-25, 15-11.

The stars of the game, Argentine Facundo Conde who collected 21 points and teammate Sebastian Sole who made five important block points.

Matthew Anderson top scored for the Americans with 18 points followed by Maxwell Holt with 16.

"What I asked my players for today is to fight for each ball," Argentina coach Julio Velasco said. "For sure next year, it will be easier to improve and continue our change as a team."

"It was not the best day for our hitters," USA coach John Speraw said. "Now we have to learn the lesson from it so we can continue to move on as a team."

The United States loss may have fueled Iran's campaign and star player Amir Ghafour was also back in action to lead the Iranians to a four set victory against Serbia 27-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18.

Ghafour flew high as he gathered 30 points, 28 from attacks and two from blocks while Uros Kovacevic and Alexsandar Atanasijevic both top scored from Serbia with 18 points each.

Iran, who lost a disappointing five-set match against host nation Poland Saturday, has made enough points in the overall standings to advance to the next round.

The top three countries from Pool E is now complete with France, Poland and Iran while Germany eliminated Canada in their matchup at Pool F to advance to the next round along with defending champions Brazil and Russia.

The final six teams will be separated into two pools and will play each other with the top two teams battling it out in the final round.
