The conference featured droid Jiajia, which can understand human language. This intelligent robot can also detect facial expressions, determine the gender of the person and can execute body movements. However, Jiajia is not the only intelligent machine there. Another robot called Canbot can respond to voice commands and can tell its name.

China is currently bullish on robotics. In fact it is looking maximizing the use of robots to maintain its lead in the manufacturing sector.

The robots are likely to help in meeting the challenges posed by the declining labor availability. China is facing shortage of labor owing to its ageing population and low birth rate, as the country implements the one-child policy.

With the growing robotics industry of China, it is also expected that the invention will offset the increasing labor costs.

China is emerging as the leading user of industrial robots, which are expected to play a key role in "Made in China 2025" plan.

According to CBS News, the country is targeting to produce100,000 industrial robots every year. It aims to have robot density of 150 robots in operations for every 10,000 employees by 2020 as well.

China currently holds 28th rank in global robot density list.

China's ambition seems achievable, as evident by the products displayed during the conference. It also showed off robots with varying skills such as Calligraphy.

The conference, which gave a picture of China's robotics industry, ran from Friday until Tuesday. It attracted nearly 150 exhibitors.
