FIFA World Cup winning Brazilian football manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has agreed to sign a one-year contract extension with the Chinese Super league (CSL) champion Guangzhou Evergrande, ending speculations over his managerial future.
According to Xinhua , Evergrande announced that the 64-year-old native of Passo Fundo agreed to a "1+1" deal with the Tianhe Stadium-homed Chinese professional football club, after guiding the Southern China Tigers to its sixth straight CSL title on Sunday.

"We firmly believe that Scolari, as the core of a world-class champion coach, will help Guangzhou continue to maintain their leading position," the Chinese football powerhouse said in a statement on the club's official website, as noted by Sporting News.
Scolari looked to be on his way out from the Chinese outfit as his previous contract is due to expire, and Italian coach Marcello Lippi just signed a pre-agreement with the club last August.
However, the deal was called off after the 2013 Chinese Football Association Coach of the Year winner was appointed as manager of the national men's football team of China, replacing Gao Hongbo, who stepped down from the position after a disappointing campaign in the FIFA World Cup Asian qualifying tournament.
Scolari, who was the first World Cup-winning manager to handle a club in the Premier League by being appointed as Chelsea's manager in July 2008, has enjoyed significant success in the field of football since joining Evergrande from Gremio of the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A in 2015, replacing the Italian manger Fabio Cannavaro.
The two-time South American Coach of the Year winner steered Evergrande to CSL and AFC Champions League glory in his debut season with the club, before going back-to-back in the league this term.
Scolari could rack up another trophy to his collection with Evergrande set to play Jiangsu Suning in the championship round of the Chinese FA Cup.
