Veteran big man Josh McRoberts could play center in the Miami Heat's new three-guard offensive system, according to latest rumors.
McRoberts, 29, is entering his 10th season in the NBA and his third with the Heat. Coming off a foot injury in the summer, he recently said he expects to slide to the center position this season with head coach Erik Spoelstra's new offense.

McRoberts' natural position is at power forward and he played as a stretch four during his first two years in Miami. However, Spoelstra has been putting him in the middle during recent practices as backup for starting center Hassan Whiteside.
"I'm sure I'll play mostly five," said McRoberts, via the Sun-Sentinel. "I think that's kind of the way the league's going at this point."
Free agent journeyman Willis Reed has been playing that role during the preseason as McRoberts heals his foot in time for the regular season. ESPN indicated that Reed will continue to be utilized until McRoberts is cleared by team doctors to return to the court.
The former Duke standout is still not available for the team's season-opener against the Orlando Magic at the Amway Center on Wednesday as his foot has not yet 100 percent healed, but he expressed enthusiasm about Spoelstra's plan to shift him to the center spot once he is ready to play.
"I'll play any position," he said. "But it doesn't really matter. But I think I most probably see myself playing the five, still playing a similar style, but I think more that's the way the game is now."
Meanwhile, McRoberts is not the only Heat player out with an injury as incoming sophomore shooting guard Josh Richardson is also sidelined by knee problems he has had since last month.
"It's not looking too good," said Richardson about his knee's progress. "But hopefully I'll be back as soon as possible. I don't know. I've been doing some non-contact stuff, so I've still yet to get full, live reps."
