Tennis reigning women's singles world No. 1 Angelique Kerber of Germany successfully outplayed Madison Keys of the United States in two straight sets that resulted to Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova's ticket to the semifinal round of the ongoing 2016 WTA Finals.

Kerber, who has only dropped a set in the round robin phase of the tournament, scored an impressive 6-3, 6-3 victory over her American opponent on Thursday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium to remain unbeaten and on top of the Red Group with a perfect record of three wins.

The German tennis star has already advanced to the semis when she claimed her second win after defeating Simona Halep in two sets last Tuesday. However, Kerber said her three straight victories are all important and it will boost her confidence even better.

"Today I wasn't thinking about that I already was in the semis," the 28-year-old Kerber, who is a two-time majors winner, said after the match. "It was important to go out to win the match and win all three matches."

"Now I'm going to the semis with three really good matches which gives me a lot of confidence," the tourney's top seed added, according toTennis.com.

Kerber, who has never advanced beyond the round robin stage of the WTA's season-ending Tour Championships, will be seen for the first time in her four appearances in the renowned tennis competition. She also participated in the event in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

With the victory of the 2016 Australian and US Open winner over Keys, it pave the way for Cibulkova, who was the only player in the Red Group to win a set against Kerber, to clinch a spot in to the final four of the tournament.

The seventh-seeded Slovakian registered her first win of the tourney after beating Halep in two sets 6-3,7-6 (7-5).

The BBC report revealed that Cibulkova, Halep and Keys have an identical 1-2 win-loss record in their group but Cibulkova had a better 3-4 sets won-lost record compared with Keys and Halep's 2-4.
