However, Song took down almost all of her posts on her account. The singer did not leave any message or hint as to why she decided to delete her posts.
This incident sparked curiosity among her followers and fans. Forums were flooded with speculation that Song seemed to be withdrawing from her Instagram account, causing concern among her supporters.
Out of the more than 50 photographs previously posted on her account, only three recent posts remain, including one new selfie and two short videos she has taken recently.
Some speculate that Song removed many of her Instagram posts because of the bashing, criticism and other negative comments they've picked up along the way.
Sources say there has been a sudden increase in hate comments on her posts, particularly those from Chinese fans scolding the singer for posting in Korean instead of Chinese.
In their comments, the Chinese fans appeared to be pushing the 27-year old singer to show more patriotism and consideration for her Chinese fans, being Chinese herself.
Social media has become increasingly important for celebrities in order to connect to their fans at a personal level as these posts, particularly on Twitter, Weibo and Instagram, provide a window to their everyday lives and thoughts that can make fans feel 'closer' to them.
In a more positive light, f(x)'s music video for their recently released song 'Red Light' surpassed over 12 million views on YouTube. The song received good reviews, millions of online downloads and made it to the top of Korean music charts since its release in July.
