The deal pertains to a high-throughput Ka-band broadband satellite, with the new contract is expected to worth nearly $208 million and signifies a breakthrough for Chinese satellite industry.

The satellite is expected to be launched in late 2019 and will cover a wide range of area over East and South East Asia. Its range will also extend over Japan and South Korea.

Thaicom reported that the satellite will carry a Ka-band payload of 37 GHz. This is equivalent to a throughput of 53 gigabits per second. The deal has been signed by Thaicom through Thaicom International Satellite, its satellite division.

The contract will include both construction and the launch of the satellite. This specification is in line with regular practice of China Great Wall Industry to bundle construction and launch services together.

The International Satellite Co. stated that the satellite will be leased to a customer on full capacity basis. The lease is likely to extend to the entire expected 15 years life span of the satellite. The customer will also assume the responsibility of making milestone payments to the Chinese company.

The China Great Wall Industry Corp. has so far relied upon export credit-backed and barter-backed dals with emerging satellite countries.

The company's vice president Ziheng Fu earlier shared that such international deals have underlined the quality of the Chinese product. Speaking at APSCC 2016 conference in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year, he noted that the focus is now on collaborating with established fleet operators.
