San Antonio Spurs News: Team Wins Season Home Opener with Parker, Ginobili on Bench

(Photo : Getty Images) The San Antonio Spurs started its offensive trashing of the Raptors early, finishing the first half with a 19-point lead on Tuesday night.
The latest San Antonio Spurs news must have delighted fans after the NBA team won this season with Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili on the bench.
Head coach Gregg Popovich decided to keep two of its veterans in the game on the bench while the team played against the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night. The Spurs won its third straight game of the season with veterans Parker and Ginobili on the sideline.

In a statement acquired by NBA.com, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said, "Every goes through this. This is our third game in five nights. Tomorrow's going to be four games in six nights."
Although the season is still in its early opening stage, Popovich is not risking his players on fatigue. Hence, the decision to sideline Parker and Ginobili for the much-needed rest.
The Spurs opened its season with a shutout of one of the league's most formidable teams, the Golden State Warriors, which recently acquired another superstar caliber player in Kevin Durant. The Spurs outplayed the Warriors on the latter's home turf nonetheless closing the game at 129-100.
The Pelicans started the season on the rough side. The team currently has a 0-3 record. The Pelicans played the Spurs after hosting the Warriors to a loss 122-114.
Despite sidelining its vets, the Spurs still has enough firepower to get its offense going. The Spurs was led by Kawhi Leonard with 20 points and four rebounds. Starting for the sidelined Parker was Patty Mills, who added 18 points and five assists.
The Pelicans' side was led by Anthony Davis with 18 points and five rebounds. Guard E'Twaun Moore added 17 points.
San Antonio Spurs, which played its first home game of the season, won the game, 79-98.
