"Django Unchained" Actress Claims Racism After Police Cuffed Her For Making Out With White Boyfriend

Daniele Watts, the black actress known for playing Coco in "Django Unchained", cried foul after Los Angeles police put her in handcuffs for making out with her white boyfriend, mistaking her for a prostitute.

The actress shared that she was approached by the officers and asked for her ID after she kissed and was being affectionate toward her white boyfriend, Brian James Lucas.

Watts refused to give her ID and she was consequently handcuffed and placed at the backseat of a police car.

In Watts and Lucas' joint Facebook account, they shared that the actress was on the phone with her father when the officers approached them.

Watts wrote on Facebook, "Today I was handcuffed and detained by two police officers from the Studio City Police Department after refusing to agree that I had done something wrong by showing affection, fully clothed, in a public place."

The actress shared that sitting at the back of the police car brought back memories of her father coming home, ranting about how police would humiliate him simply because he was black.

"I was sitting in that back of this cop car, filled with adrenaline, my wrist bleeding in pain, and it occurred to me, that even there, I STILL HAD POWER OVER MY OWN SPIRIT," she wrote.

She also shared that she does not fear any "authority figure" because she is equal to any government official of police officer.

Lucas also took to social media to defend his girlfriend, saying that just because he had tattoos and he was white, while Watts was wearing shorts and was black, the officers immediately assumed that he was a client and she was a prostitute.

He said he gave them his ID because he had experienced that sort of prejudice in the past, but Watts refused to follow suit because she had done nothing wrong.

Lucas also shared that while the officers were handcuffing Watts, they had cut her wrist, adding that it "was truly NOT COOL!!!"

A rep for  the Los Angeles Police Department there was no record of the incident because the actress was not brought to the station.
