Hong Bingsheng, the toddler's father said the she has been slain as their family tried to obstruct the demolition team from "forcibly pressing the land" last Wednesday, also adding that the workers plan to demolish their own property after everything else.
When the Patriarch of the Hong family asked an official of the demolition team on what is more important, human life or land acquisition, the official answered that Land acquisition is more important.
The body of the toddler was brought by her family to a local government office to protest to officials.
The family has been bargaining reparation over the acquisition of their land. Talks like that among residents and developers are becoming more frequent as China undergoes rapid urbanization.
The police and local officials denied that the developers targeted the family home.
An official at the Zhangpu district office, who declined to give her name, said that no demolition happened. The girl who died was accidentally run over by the bulldozer when she sneaked and played into the building site being flattened.
According to a police surnamed Chen, the family got scared their land might be affected when the developers was pressing the land beside theirs.
China's rapid urbanization can see whole villages dug up to make way for housing and industry developments - most of the time with the help of police and corrupt officials.
The number of violent forced ejection cases is ballooning in China, according to Amnesty International, a British-based rights group. Its evictees are sometimes imprisoned, beaten, or even killed at the hands of authorities.
