China has formalized rules for its online video streaming industry as live video streaming is fast gaining ground in the country.
The rules put forwarded the Cyberspace Administration of China and aims to promote 'healthy and orderly development" in the segment. The rules specifically prohibit live streaming of any content that may adversely affect social stability and national security.

The Cyberspace Administration of China issued a 24-point regulation, which incorporates some of the previously announced provisions. The measure will be effective from December 1 this year. Under these provisions, online video streaming services are required to keep records of their user data and other data for 60 days.
The provisions further obligate the industry to cooperate with the government and release data about the users who are found streaming inappropriate content. Online news broadcasting services are also required to identify the sources of their content. Streaming service providers are required to be technically able to block live streams if the need arises.
These outlets are not allowed to stream original reporting and are required to use state-sanctioned information. Service providers are also required to blacklist users who do not comply with the regulations. Further, service providers will have to ensure that such users do not create new accounts.
China is witnessing a massive surge in its online video streaming market. In the recent times, various apps and platforms have emerged which lets users stream any content they wish. Some of the popular platforms are Inke and Huajiao. Earlier this year, the government urged the industry to form a self-censoring coalition.
