Police arrested two men wearing costumes and another man after reportedly getting into a fist fight in Times Square on Saturday night. Both costumed men arrested, who were identified as Manhattan residents, were charged by officials with misdemeanor assault while charges against the third man are yet to be determined pending the investigation of the incident.

In a report released by the New York Post, the physical altercation was ignited when Thomas Rorke allegedly heckled the two costumed characters working near 44th street and Broadway at approximately 10:25 in the evening. Jose Escalona-Martinez, who wore a Batman costume, and Abdel Elkahezai, who donned a Spiderman suit, then confronted the heckler.
According to Elkahezai, 35, and Martinez, 41, they were both purportedly provoked by the 23-year-old and his friend by taunting them with "sexually suggestive gestures". These lewd remarks and gestures then ignited the costumed men's anger. A yelling match commenced, which gradually turned into a fist fight involving both men, Rorke, and the 23-year-old's companion right there in Times Square. The responding officers stated that the heckler suffered from multiple injuries in his face, as well as swelling. In addition, Rorke incurred a noticeable injury in his left eye.
In his statement, Rorke, who identified himself as a resident of Breezy Point, alleged that the two men punched him in face numerous times. On the other hand, Elkahezai and Martinez also claimed that they received several punches from two aggressive pedestrians who joined the fight, but immediately left before the police arrived to break up the brawl.
Earlier this year, city councilman Andy King has proposed that New York officials legislate a law that will obligate the costumed characters to obtain a license from the city prior to being allowed to work. In accordance with King's proposal, each license will cost US $175. This legislation suggestion was adamantly objected against by the costumed characters as their average earning reaches only US $50 to US $70 in tip per shift.
