“The Great Gatsby" Released in Mainland China

August 30th,"The Great Gatsby" was released in Mainland China. Baz Luhrmann, director of "The Great Gatsby" came to Beijing to promote his film. During the premiere in Beijing, Baz Luhrmann shared his experience in China. It is reported that, acting like an "Old Imp", Baz Luhrmann first described how Leonardo DiCaprio performed on set, then held the host's hands and gave improvisational performance to the audience.

Director inspired by a journey by train in China
Baz Luhrman is an Australian director who is well known in China for his films such as Moulin Rouge, Romeo and Juliet, Strictly Ballroom. When promoting his new film "The Great Gatsby" in Beijing, he told the audience that he had a special feeling toward China. He mentioned that he was inspired to film the story "The Great Gatsby" by a journey by train in China, "It is absolutely a circle. I was getting the Trans-Siberian Express, and I had a recorded book with me and on the first night, as I went through Manchuria, I put on the recorded book and I realized that I thought I knew this book, but I didn't, then I began researching the movie of The Great Gatsby."
It is reported that Baz Luhrmann attached great importance to his trip to China. He joined Weibo before his arrival and received 100,000 followers within 48 hours. Luhrmann mentioned that he had already received a lot of great questions from his followers. In return, he encouraged the followers to give him their feedback for the film.
Baz Luhrmann also mentioned that he and his 10-year-old daughter have long been big fans of Chinese dumplings. He took dumplings for breakfast in Beijing and told his daughter to make her jealous.
Leonardo DiCaprio apologized for the absence
Although Leonardo DiCaprio, main actor in "The Great Gatsby", who has long been recognized as "an old friend of Chinese people", was absent in the press conference, he made a video to specially congratulate the successful release of the film in Mainland China.
Leonardo DiCaprio learned several Chinese sentences for the video. When the video began, he said "Hello" in Chinese to everyone. Because he was filming the new movie "The Wolf of Wall Street", Leonardo could not attend the premiere in China. He apologized to Chinese fans for the absence.
