China claims it's now a world leader in anti-stealth radar technology and has revealed an array of these radars with versions meant to be sold to other countries.

Apart from this leadership, the capabilities of China's stealth detecting radars are regarded as the best in the world, claims Gao Zhuo, a military observer from Shanghai with close ties to the People's Liberation Army (PLA).

These current capabilities will be boosted by a new radar system that adopts quantum technology to better detect stealth aircraft. This quantum radar system is being developed by Nanjing Research Institute of Electronic Technology (NRIET), a part of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC).

This radar can be mounted on ground vehicles and aircraft to detect stealth planes from long distances. The PLA claims only the U.S .and China are developing quantum radar technology.

State-owned China Electronics Technology Group Corporation displayed its YLC-8B and SLC-7 anti-stealth radars at the recent 11th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition. CETC has developed almost all of the radars used by the PLA.

The YLC-8B, SLC-7 and the JY-27A were designed by NRIET. The YLC-8B and SLC-7 integrate the traditional detection method of mechanical scanning with advanced phased array technology. This combination allows them to detect aerial targets including stealth aircraft, said NRIET.

NRIET develops radar transmitters; high resolution radar systems; combinations of C3I system and surface-to surface-tactical missile systems. Research topics include anti-jamming capabilities of surveillance, search and target designation radars, as well as using SAR/ISAR methods to image a ship target by processing data from airborne radar.

On the other hand, the JY-27A is a long-range surveillance/guidance radar resistant to jamming. CETC claims this radar system is highly reliable and mobile.

Senior Colonel Li Li, a military equipment expert at the PLA National Defense University, said detecting stealth planes requires highly sophisticated technology and that Chinese institutes have been devising radar-based approaches.
